What is a File Malware Scanner?
A file malware scanner is an application that detects and identifies malicious files (such as viruses, Trojan horses, rootkits, spyware, worms, or other potentially unwanted programs) in your computer system. It is important to run a malware scan often, particularly after downloading suspicious files or receiving phishing emails. Malware can cause many issues, such as DLL file errors, blue screens of death, slow computer performance, or unexpected hard drive activity. It can also hide itself from anti-virus software and make forensics more difficult.
How to Choose the Best File Malware Scanner for Your Needs
Pangea has partnered with the leading malware scanning providers in security to offer API-level access to their market-leading virus detection capabilities to reduce your app’s exposure to malware and provide a secure upload every time. Use our malware scanning integration to ensure all uploaded files are scanned and verified for a zero-trust experience.
Upon upload, your files are scanned with a leading antivirus engine and heuristics to check for common malware threats such as Trojan horses, rootkits, spyware, or worms. A malware scan can also check for memory-resident malware, which operates from a victim’s computer memory rather than from files on a hard drive, making it harder to detect by anti-virus software.
Once a threat is detected, an alert with detail is generated and available for review. The alert details include the name of the file, risk score, any download restrictions, uploader information, location, and other relevant insights. You can also continuously export security alerts to your SIEM (Security Information Event Manager) using the Microsoft Sentinel connector or another SIEM of your choice.
