Located on the A6 near Kettering, and 4.5 miles from Wellingborough, Burton Latimer is also served by buses to Kettering and Bedford. It has a sports centre, a library, a town hall and an art gallery. The town is home to non-league football team Burton Park Wanderers and a local cricket club.
The town is home to a number of churches including St Mary’s Church, the Olde Victoria and Burton Latimer Baptist Church. The town has a working men’s club and a band club. It also has a Conservative club and a civic centre.
There has never been a long-standing dental practice in the town so at the turn of the century, anyone suffering from toothache would have had to either go to Mrs Roddis at 94 Alexandra Street and buy a bottle of toothache essence or travel out of town for a dentist.
The earliest permanent town surgery was founded at Osborne House at the Cross in the early 1900s, which was the home of Doctor Edwin Lloyd Warner. His partners in the surgery included Dr Herbert Burland from Finedon and later, Dr Ken Padgett of Corby.
